Community Training

Anyone can learn CPR and should!  If you live with an infant, elderly or an at risk family member or if you are just interested in learning, CEMS offers community CPR and First Aid classes on a regular basis.  Our instructors are experienced in real-life emergency situations and are able to teach students of all levels from highly experienced to the novice.  Learning how to react in an emergency can ultimately make the difference and possibly save a life.  Nearly 88% of all cardiac arrests occur at home.  Would you know what to do?

The classes below, as well as all the Workplace Training Classes are open to the general public.

Safe Sitter®

Course Description:  Safe Sitter® teaches young teens (11-14) everything they need to know to be safe when they’re home alone watching younger siblings or when babysitting.

Students learn life-saving skills in this class.  They will learn how to rescue someone who’s choking.  They will also learn helpful information so they will understand what to do in the case of severe weather.  The class is filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises.  Students will use CPR mannequins to  practice CPR and choking rescue.

Course Length:  7 hours

Certification Period:  n/a – completion card issued

Intended Audience:  This course is designed for boys and girls ages 11- 14 years.

Required Materials:   Parent authorization form signed by a legal guardian must be presented before class begins.  Safe Sitter® course materials will be provided at the time of course.

To graduate from the Safe Sitter® course, students must pass practical and written tests that demonstrates their mastery of key concepts and life safety skills.

Family & Friends® CPR

Course Description: The Family & Friends® CPR course teaches lay rescuers the lifesaving skills of adult Hands-Only™ CPR, child CPR with breaths, adult and child AED use, infant CPR and relief of choking in an adult, child or infant. This is a course designed for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job
Course Length: 1.5 – 2 hours
Certification Period: n/a – participation card issued
Intended Audience: This course is intended for schools, new parents, grandparents, babysitters, and others that are interested in learning how to save a life.

The American Heart Association mandates each student must have the book to attend training.

Hands-Only CPR

Course Description:  The Hands-Only™ CPR is program is CPR without mouth-to-mouth breaths.  It is recommended for use by people who see a teen or adult suddenly collapse in an “out-of-hospital” setting.  This program teaches the core skills of CPR in about 20 minutes.  This format is great for training groups, families and friends.
